Another one bites the dust

As the Republican Party seems even more confident that Mitt Romney will be their nominee, their only potential at beating Obama has officially ended his campaign. A big relief for Democrats considering Huntsman was the only feasible competitor to Obama in the general election. Huntsman offered absolutely nothing in the race, except a reminder that not all Republicans are total whack jobs that don’t believe in science. Other than that, he was just another millionaire, among millionaires, trying to get millionaires to vote for him.

Will he be the VP? He definitely left on a positive note with the Romney campaign considering he left the race because he “didn’t want to stand in the way of the candidate most prepared to beat Obama and turn around the economy.”

Romney is “winning”…or at least redefining what winning means

Last night Romney won the Iowa caucus by 8 votes…how amazing is that? While Romney “won” the caucus, he has set new standards of what winning means within the Republican Party. Romney successfully passed up Bob Dole in terms of having the lowest winning share of vote in the Iowa caucuses, not to mention he set a new record by being the first candidate to convince 75% of the electorate to not chose him! And while this one probably hurts the most, he received less votes this time than he did in the 2008 caucus.

Nestle those facts in with the reality that Romney has really been running for President since the 2008 elections. The electorate has had time to vet him and get to know him and it seems obvious that about 25% of Republicans can stand him, while the other 75% of members in his own party still can’t push themselves to vote for him.

Yes, these same Republicans will vote for Romney when it is Romney vs. Obama, but only as a vote against Obama. I may be an idealist, but my guess is that those motivated by hate are going to lose this time around, but who knows. I also would have never guessed the Republicans best competitor to Obama would be Santorum and Romney..so who knows!
